About

Bekka Melino was born in New York City and spent her youth in both New Jersey and Virginia. She has been creating since early childhood. It all started with building and decorating spaces, clothing designs, music, and choreography. Her eyes were always open, observing and gaining inspiration from images she saw. All of these artistic interests stuck through high school, where she then became involved in theater set building, propping, lighting, and also added photography to the list of activities.
She received a BA from THE EVERGREEN STATE COLLEGE, spending much of her time doing contracts and internships off-campus. During this time she acquired various skills, such as welding, printmaking, bronze casting, forging, sewing and painting; creating art, photography, furniture and sculptures out of steel, wood and found objects. She lived in Los Angeles for several years working for GRAND ROYAL (The Beastie Boys) record label, creating merchandise and art directing events and catalog shoots for them. Outside of this job, she was making her own artwork, and assisting photographers such as "B+" and Natasha Calzotti.
After college, she created her own position at a branding/marketing firm from Southern California, LAMBESIS, which she traveled all over the US and some international cities, collecting trend forecasting information, and making art/ doing photography all the while. In 1998 she moved back to NYC and began decorating for high-end events and later worked at the film production company called HEADQUARTERS. In 2000, she began freelancing in the art department for motion and still photography, working in New York, Los Angeles and on location worldwide. Over the years she has had the pleasure of working with directors such as, Spike Lee and John Hillcoat and photographers like David la Chapelle, Mark Seliger and Geof Kern, to name a few.
As a multifaceted, DIY production designer for film, TV, commercials, music videos some of Bekka's clients include: NIKE, ADIDAS, NINTENDO OF AMERICA. Her set design/prop styling has appeared in editorials for ID, DEUTSCH, ME, and DEDICATED magazines as well. She has shown her personal artwork through group shows and her own exhibits.
Bekka has travelled extensively over the years in Europe, Asia, Central and South America, collecting mental images as well as photographic images of things that inspire and excite her.
